That page shows all the different street teams, and if you click on each team it provides some information for each on that page. Contact information for community leaders is on the page, and they would be happy to answer any questions you have about the Street Team.

If you like Severed Fifth and want to spread the word, you are all set to join the Street Team! To join, just join the communication channel that the team uses and introduce yourself. All set!

No Team in Your Area?Edit

Go ahead and start one!

Creating a team is fun and easy, and we are always here to help. Feel free to jump right in and get things going. We like movers and shakers and would be happy to hear from you about your activities in the Street Team and certainly will offer help or answer any questions you have. Keep on rocking! \m/

To get started, add an entry to the local Street Teams page everyone knows about your team. There is a template page so it is simply a case of editing that page, copying the content to your new page and editing it as appropriate. You should also make a post on the forums so everyone knows about your new team and can join up if they are in your area.

CommunicationEdit

Now you have a street team, you should consider how you intend for the team members to communicate with each other. How will you provide them with updates on what the team is doing? How can they participate and help you?

One popular method of keeping in touch is to use a Facebook Group. If most of your team use Facebook, this is a simple and convenient way of having conversations and planning projects together.

Here is how you create Facebook Group:

  1. Go to http://www.facebook.com/groups/ and click the Create Group button.
  2. Enter a name for the group – I recommend you call it the Severed Fifth <insert area here> Street Team (e.g. I called mine Severed Fifth Bay Area Street Team) as this helps all of the Severed Fifth Street Teams appear when doing a search on Facebook.
  3. You can also invite people to join. Don’t just spam people, but do invite people who have expressed an interest in joining.
  4. Finally, be sure to add your team to the list of Severed Fifth Street Teams and add your Facebook Group there as your website.

In addition to ensuring your team can chat to each other, we also recommend you keep in touch with other people in the Severed Fifth Street Team community (such as folks from other teams. We have two main methods of keeping in touch:

  • The Forum - the discussion forum is where we communicate together as a wider community. In particular, check out the Street Team Forum.
  • The Chat Channel - this is a real-time text chat channel. This is a great way to chat to Severed Fifth community members right now.

All set!

Build BuzzEdit

With your team all set up and a place for you all to communicate, now you need to find some members and ask them to join the team. Before you get started, you should ensure your Street Team page that you created on the wiki has some simple steps that explain how folks join the team and join your communication channel. This is often as simple as joining the Facebook Group.

It is important to make sure that the instructions for joining - we don't want people to express an interest and then get confused at how to join.

With that all set, we recommend you do each of the following to find more members:

  • If you use Facebook, Twitter, identi.ca, Bebo etc, point people to your Street Team page on the wiki and invite people to join.
  • If you are using Facebook Groups for your communication channel (as discussed earlier), send an invitation to your Facebook friends to join the group.
  • If you have a blog or a website, add something to encourage people to join.
  • Post a message on forums and bulliten boards about music and Free Culture in your local area, encouraging people to join.
  • Reach out to local user groups and clubs in your area (e.g. music clubs, rock society's, Open Source user groups etc) and encourage folks to join.
  • Put up posters in music and computer stores in your area - make sure your posters have contact details for how people join your group - see the Street Team Materials page for some useful resources.
  • Go to local metal, rock and music nights at bars and clubs and hand out some flyers and tell people about the team. See the Street Team Materials page for some printable flyers.

Good luck!
